The Larry W. Johnson Family Scholarship was established by Larry W. Johnson in 2024. Larry was born 12/30/1946 in Clarinda, IA to Wayne and Nadine Johnson. He grew up on a farm in Taylor County, Iowa. As a youth he was a 4-H Member. November 25, 1967, Larry married his high-school sweetheart Sandy (DOB 09/10/46). Sandy was also a farm girl born in Creston, IA. They attended the same community rural church. They have two children and they both attended Ellsworth Community College classes.
Larry served his country from 1971 – 1984 in the Iowa Army National Guard and ended his service ranked an E-6. Larry’s higher education began at Northwest Missouri State where he received his BS Degree in 1969 and his MS Degree in 1978 with a major of English Education. In 1983 Larry graduated from Drake University, Iowa with his Law Degree. Larry’s professional background began as a High School Teacher of Language Arts from 1969-1980. He also taught Continuing Education Classes at Ellsworth Community College until 1980. Larry halted his teaching career when he went to law school in 1980. He then opened a general practice law firm in 1983 in Iowa Falls.
As an Iowa Falls community member, Larry has been an instrumental member of United Methodist Church, Ellsworth College Foundation, Iowa Falls Chamber/Main Street, Iowa Falls Area Development Board, Scenic City Empress Boat Club and Highland Golf Club. He also served several years on the Iowa Valley Community College Board of Directors with many of those years serving as Board President.
The hobbies and interests of Larry are reading, civic involvement, golf, theater productions, and community activities. Letters of appreciation will be sent to the family.
