Clifton B. Randall was born March 24, 1934 in Marshalltown, Iowa to Ithel and Alma (Smith) Randall. He graduated from Marshalltown Senior High School in 1952 and received his AA degree from Marshalltown Community College in 1954. He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict where he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. Upon completing his service he continued his education earning his BA and MA from the Iowa State Teachers College now the University of Northern Iowa in 1960 and 1961. He did post-graduate work at the University of Iowa, Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and American University in Washington, D.C. Upon his graduation from UNI he began teaching social science courses at Ellsworth where he spent his entire career and retired in 1995. On July 29, 1972, he married Leila Lemker in Marshalltown. Leila E. (Lemker) Randall was born August 19, 1937 in Marshall County to Leo and Loretta (Kopec) Lemker. She graduated from Van Cleve High School in Marshall County in 1955 and completed some courses at Marshalltown Community College. She worked for Iowa Electric Light & Power Company in Marshalltown for 18 years, for Drs. Rowley & Miller DDS in Iowa Falls for 11 years, and IES (formerly Iowa Electric Light & Power in Iowa Falls for 12 years retiring in 1996. She then operated an antique business at the Buggy Whip Antique Mall in Iowa Falls for six years. She passed away in 2017. Clifton and Leila have a daughter, Dr. Kimberly A. Randall, who graduated from ECC in 1978. Clifton and Leila are members of St. Mark Catholic Church in Iowa Falls where Leila was active in Parish Council. The couple is members of the Iowa Falls Historical Society, the Ellsworth “E” Club, the Friends of the Calkins Nature Area, and former members of the Iowa Falls Boat Club. Clifton is a member of Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post 188 in Iowa Falls, where Leila served as past president of the auxiliary, an honorary member of the Iowa State Sheriffs and Deputies Association and a member of the BPOE (Elks). In their spare time Clifton and Leila enjoy traveling, wintering in Arizona, going to antique auctions, flower gardening, and reading. Clifton also enjoys watching ECC football games. The Randall’s endowed this scholarship to help students achieve their scholastic goals and in recognition of their long affiliation with the college.
