Barbara Dunlay established this endowed scholarship in September 2016 in memory of her husband Dr. Robert Dunlay. Both were very active in the Iowa Falls Community with Dr. Dunlay practicing family medicine for 40 years along-side his partners Dr. Graham, Dr. Gude, and Dr. Brunkhorst. Dr. Robert Dunlay was born February 21, 1930 in Orleans Nebraska to John and Nita Dunlay. He grew up on a farm in Orleans, Nebraska. He graduated from Orleans High School in 1948 and attended Kearney State Teachers College and Creighton University. In 1955, he received a Masters of Pharmacology degree from Creighton and in 1956 he received his medical degree. He practiced family medicine for 40 years in Iowa Falls. He was member of St. Marks Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the Elks Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and horseback riding. Dr. Dunlay and his partners enjoyed being the Ellsworth team Drs. for many years, covering both in-town and away games. Dr. Dunlay passed away April 16, 2016. Barbara (Deats) Dunlay was born August 8, 1934 to Stover and Catherine Deate. She graduated from Grand Island High School in (?) and attended Duchesne College in Omaha, NE and the Creighton Memorial St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated in 1955 as a Registered Nurse. She worked as an R.N. at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska and in her husband practice in Iowa Falls. She is a member of St. Marks Catholic Church, Isabella Literacy Society, board member of the Iowa Falls Historical Society. For several years she was a volunteer at Ellsworth College as a C.P.R. instructor working with Marty Dittmer and Marilyn Thornton. Barb enjoys flower gardening, reading, and dinner with friends. Dr. Dunlay and Barb were united in marriage in 1955 at the Saint Mary’s Cathedral in Grand Island Nebraska. Their children include: Dr. Robert Dunaly and wife Kathy, Dr. Patrick Dunlay and wife Tiffany, Mary Dunlay, and Catherine Roys. They have 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Mary attended Ellsworth Community College in 1981-1982.
