Darwin J. Miller was born 10/17/50 in Hampton, IA to Jacob E. and Henrietta A. (Toomsen) Miller. Debra L. (Stinson) Miller was born 02/13/52 in Marshalltown, IA to R. Lee and Betty L. (Neubauer) Stinson. Darwin graduated from Iowa Falls High School May 1968; Received his A.A. from Ellsworth Junior College May 1970; his B.S from Iowa State University in Agricultural Education May 1972; and his M.S. from Iowa State University in Higher Education August 1985. Debra graduated from Iowa Falls High School May 1970; Received her A.A. from Ellsworth Community College in May 1985; received her B.A. Degree from the University of Northern Iowa May 1987 in Elementary Education. Darwin began his teaching career as the Vocational Agriculture Teacher at Aplington Community High School. He served the Aplington Community High School for 6 years. He then went on to teach at Ellsworth Community College for the next 16 years as the Agriculture Instructor. Darwin joined Iowa Select Farms for 3 years as the Human Resources Director. He then accepted the offer to become the Executive Director of ISU County Extension for 23 years and held that position until his retirement in February 2020. Debra was the Administrative Assistant with Purina Mills, Inc. for 8 years. Worked at Hired Hands Mfg. for 3 years and has been employed with Walters & Johnson, Attorneys at Law for the past 21 years. Although retired, Darwin continues to be active in the Iowa Falls community and also with committees and clubs. He is the current President of Ellsworth College Board of Trustees; Ex-officio member of Ellsworth College Foundation; member of Ellsworth Community College Agri-Science Advisory Committee; Ex-officio member of Hardin County Community Endowment Foundation Board; Ex-officio member of the Friends of Calkins Nature Center Board; member of the Iowa Falls Elks Lodge, member of the Iowa Falls Rotary Club; President of the Aplington Jaycees; Vice-President of Iowa Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association; Elder, Outreach Chair and Council Chair at First Christian Church. Deb is actively involved at First Christian Church as a Sunday School Teacher and Bible School Teacher. In Deb’s spare time, she enjoys volunteering at Church Women United Thrift Store. Both Darwin and Debra grew up on farms near Iowa Falls and currently reside in the Iowa Falls community. They were married 06/12/71. To this union a son and daughter were born. Jason D. Miller, who attended Ellsworth Community College and graduated from ISU with a B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a M.B.A Degree from Clarke College. Jacquelyn L. (Miller) Spencer, who attended Ellsworth Community College and graduated from University of Northern Iowa with B.A. and M.A. Degrees in Psychology and Educational Counseling. Darwin and Deb have 4 grandchildren. Together, Darwin and Deb enjoy spending time with their family, gardening and traveling.
