Donald J. Henrich was born August, 15, 1934 to Harold and Mary Henrich in Templeton, Iowa. He graduated from Carroll High School in Carroll, Iowa in 1952. Following his graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a Specialist Third Class in the Korean Conflict until 1955. Upon his discharge, he attended the University of South Dakota for two years and graduated from Iowa State University in 1960 with a BS in Civil Engineering. In 1957 he married Bonnie Heisterkamp of Breda, Iowa and following his graduation from Iowa State, he and Bonnie moved to Iowa Falls where he accepted a position with Iowa Prestressed Concrete. Don retired after 40 years working for the company, nine of which as manager. Don was very active in the community over the years. He served on the Iowa Falls State Bank Board of Directors, was a member of Highland Country Club, the Iowa Falls Lions Club, the Knights of Columbus, Ellsworth College Board of Trustees, Ellsworth College Foundation Board, Ellsworth College “E” Club, the Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post No. 188 of Iowa Falls, and the Iowa Falls Elks Club. His service to the community was recognized in 1980 when he received the Iowa Falls Chamber/Main Street’s Community Service Award. Don spent his free time golfing, fishing and hunting. Bonnie Heisterkamp Henrich was born September 8, 1934 to Leo and Lil Heisterkamp in Breda, Iowa. She graduated from St. Bernards Catholic High School in Breda in 1952 and St. Anthony’s School of Nursing in Carroll in 1955. She began her nursing career at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Carroll, Iowa where she worked from 1955-57. She then spent a year at Vermilion Hospital in Vermillion, South Dakota and two years at McFarland Clinic in Ames, Iowa. After taking time off to raise a family she returned to nursing in 1989 at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls until her retirement in 2000. Bonnie is a member of the Isabella Literary Society, served on the Iowa Falls Public Library Board for many years and she and Don are both active members of St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Iowa Falls, where she serves on many committees. In her free time, she enjoys reading, and traveling. She enjoys spending time with her grandchildren and attending Iowa State sporting events. Don and Bonnie have four children, a son, Michael, a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa, and daughters, Karen, who attended ECC for one year and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa; Sandee, who attended ECC for one year and graduated from the University of Iowa; and Mary Beth, who attended ECC for one year and graduate from the University of Northern Iowa. Don passed away July 30, 2010.
