Humayoun Raza Rizvi came to the United States in 1967 as a graduate student from India. He obtained a Master’s degree in Education and Psychology from the University of Northern Iowa. Raza came to Iowa Falls in 1969 when he accepted a position teaching Psychology, Education and Human Services classes at Ellsworth Community College. In 1971, his wife, Fatima Hehra, and sons, Ashraf and Suhail, immigrated to the United States and came to Iowa Falls. During Raza’s career at the college, he taught many different courses and served as chairman of the Psychology and Human Services department for several years. Raza retired in 1996 and he and Fatima remain residents of Iowa Falls. Ashraf and Suhail, graduated from Iowa Falls High School in 1982 and 1984 respectively. Raza passed away in 2016. Following his graduation from high school, Ashraf attended Ellsworth for one year and then transferred to the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He graduated in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. He was a trader on the floors of the New York Futures Exchange, the Philadelphia Stock Exchange, and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange during the late 1980s. He spent most of the next 20 years in London primarily with Swiss Bank Corporation which later became UBS. He left UBS in 2007 after 13 years and having become the Deputy Head of Global Commodities and Head of Commodities Trading. In 2008 he co-founded SummerHaven Investment Management, LLC which is a commodities investment management firm based in Stamford, Connecticut. Ashraf is also a board member for the Undergraduate Division of the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He lives in New Canaan, Connecticut with his wife, Saira, sons, Adam and Noah, and daughter, Anika. Suhailattended Ellsworth for one year and then transferred to the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He graduated in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. He began his career with MIG Companies, an investment management firm, and in 1989 became a principal in the firm. Suhail is a co-founder and Chief Development Officer at Rizvi Traverse Management. The firm has investments in several media companies including International Creative Management, New Bridge Film Campital, and Summit Entertainment. He has led the acquisitionof over 40 different companies in various industries including media, entertainment, private aviation, telecommunications, financial services, and Internet services and distribution. Suhail also serves on the board of the Undergraduate Division of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He lives in Greenwich, Connecticut with his wife, Patti Jean, and daughters, Yasmin, Farah, Zayna, and son, Arslan. The Rizvi Family Scholarship was created in gratitude for the educational experience they collectively enjoyed at Ellsworth Community College. As immigrants to the United States in the 1960s,, they were appreciative of how they were accepted in the community in Iowa Falls and at Ellsworth Community College. This scholarship, provided without restrictions, is intended to reflect their appreciation for the opportunity that was afforded to them as a result of their immigration and acceptance into the United States.
