Ray King was born on July 29,1926 at Ellsworth Hospital in Iowa Falls, Iowa to Austin and Marie King. He graduated from Iowa Falls High School in 1954 and attended Ellsworth College for his AA degree which he graduated in 1956. He then went on to State College of Iowa and earned his B.A. in 1956 with his graduate work at Drake University.
From 1956 to 1994 he was an elementary teacher and taught in Clear Lake 5th grade and for 13 years and retiring from Ames Community School District in 1994. He has been a life member of the National Education Association. Student taught in Iowa Falls and Cedar Falls school districts. He also trained 25 plus student teachers from ISU, Ames. Over his lifetime he has volunteered with One Heart, Inc., Open Line, Mary Greely Medical Center, Living History Farms, St. Cecilin—Meals on Wheels, Free Market and Meals at First. Ray was born and raised on the family farm near Iowa Falls with his parents, Austin and Marie along with his younger brother, Merle. He enjoys Iowa State University football and basketball and enjoyed trips to Branson, Clear Lake, Springfield, IL, and Iowa State Fair. He also is involved in his church’s social programs, gardening, walking and outdoor activities at LHF as a volunteer. He has loved living in Ames since 1969.
