Esther Lucile Meyer was born September 22, 1922 and attended Beaver Valley Country School. She did housework and was employed at the nearby Junction Truck Stop as a cook and a pie maker. Following that, she worked at the Farmland Food Packing Plant for 19 years retiring in 1985. Esther was an active member of St. John’s United Church of Christ and St. Johns’ Willing Workers in Ackley, Iowa. Esther and her siblings, Elmer and Wilma, have been essential supporters in several projects within the community and Ellsworth Community College. These projects consist of Vision 21, Meyer Aquatic Center, Rock Run Playground and a family scholarship which provides annual scholarships to support students in their education. Esther and her family were devoted to living off of the land and worked hard for their crop. They were garden masters before the term existed, they lived a simple life, but never needed for anything. They had their faith and family and a full heart. The generosity of Esther is greatly appreciated by Ellsworth College Foundation and the Hardin County Communities. The Meyer name will be remembered into infinity.
