Willis and Connie (Caslavka) Wubbena are longtime Hardin County residents who have been most supportive of their schools and community. In 1986, they established the Willis and Connie Wubbena Endowed Scholarship at Ellsworth Community College to be awarded annually to a graduating Iowa Falls High School student. They have also been active participants in the fund drive for the Interpretive Center at the Calkins Nature Area. Willis was a contractor in the area for many years with emphasis on new home construction and remodeling of homes. He and his wife also developed several rental houses, many of which served as home to Ellsworth students. Willis tried retirement briefly, but it proved incompatible with his high energy level and he more leisurely returned to the rental housing business with extended winter visits to Arizona. Willis passed away May 21, 2006. Connie has been very active in the community participating in the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital Auxiliary, Girl Scouts and activities at their Immanuel Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls. Her family has a long history with Ellsworth Community College. Her mother, brother, and sister all graduated from the college. The couple has three children: Duane of rural Iowa Falls, Diane Benyshek, of Lisbon, Iowa, and Donna Wubbena of Iowa Falls. All three attended Ellsworth Community College with Diane receiving her A.A. in human services.
